Second week in Australia

The original people of Australia were hunter-gatherers.
In 1606 Willem Janszoon was the first European who saw Australia.
The British colonies were created between the XIX and XX century.
On the 1st January 1901 the Commonwealth of Australia was created. This meant that Australia became a dominion of the British Empire, meaning they were allowed to control their own government. After World War II, Australia encouraged immigration from Europe and Asia, which changed the culture a lot. The Australia Act of 1986 ended the British role in the government forever.

The culture of Australia is influenced by all of the people who have moved there from other countries. The food was influenced a lot at first by the British settlers and is very similar to the food in the UK. After more people moved from the Mediterranean and Asian countries, a lot of this type of food was introduced into the culture too. Sports are very important to Australian culture. Some of the most popular sports are cricket, rugby, and football and Australia has many strong international teams.
